LAB Traffic Skills 101 – Now Available in Delaware

WCBC used to have trained facilitators to teach the Effective Cycling course. It’s been a while since that or a more current version has been available locally. Anthony Aglio, Bicycle Coordinator at DelDOT, has been offering some bike safety programs, and pushing for more training options for cyclists in the state. As a result of that effort, Michael Love, a League Certified Instructor (LCI), will be offering two sessions of Smart Cycling – Traffic Skills 101 this spring:

- March 5-6. 2010 (Fri-Sat) -- Dover
- March 12-13, 2010 (Fri-Sat) – Seaford

Plans are to offer the course in the Rehoboth-Bethany Beach area in the summer, and in Newark in the fall.

Smart Cycling-Traffic Skills 101 is a nine hour course that provides instruction and guidance in the basic principles of vehicular bicycling. Bicyclists have more fun when they ride with skill and confidence. This course combines classroom discussion and parking lot activities with on-road practice of the principles of vehicular bicycling.

If you are interested in taking the course, please contact Michael Love:

This course is a pre-requisite for becoming an LCI. If you are interested in helping to promote bicycling by becoming a trainer, please consider signing up for this course. Our WCBC Constitution states that we aim “to teach safe, efficient bicycling techniques to youth and adults”. What better way to fulfill one of our goals than by teaching others how to enjoy safe cycling on our roads.

There will be an opportunity to learn more about the LAB Smart Cycling program at the Delaware Bike Summit, to be held in Wilmington on Friday, May 21.
