Tour of the Adirondacks

June 12-21, 2010

Coordinated by WCBC member Wally Hertler (wallyhert@verizon.net)

This unsupported (no sag) bicycle tour of the Adirondacks and the Catskills of New York and the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts begins Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Wilmington, DE Amtrak station (Front and French Street), where we will board the Vermonter for a 12-hour train ride to St Albans, Vermont. A rented truck will take our bikes from the Wilmington train station to St Albans, VT.

After an overnight in St Albans we will take the short ferry ride across Lake Champlain to Plattsburg, NY for an overnight in Wilmington, NY at the Hungry Trout fishing lodge. Next day we ride through Lake Placid to Blue Mountain Lake for a stay at Hemlock Hall near the Adirondack Museum.

From there we ride through the southern Adirondacks to Amsterdam on the Mohawk River, and from there we will take the extensive Mohawk-Hudson Bike Trail through Albany and continue to Pittsfield, MA for a two-night stay that will give us an opportunity to climb Mt Greylock on the newly rebuilt roadway and to take the nice downhill on the Mohawk Trail before returning to our hotel.
