Brief History of the White Clay Bicycle Club.

The White Clay Bicycle Club was begun in December 1972 in Newark, Delaware by Joel Tabor and John David Lambert, owner of Dependence Bicycle Shop. Joel put together the first issue of Tailwind in March 1973, and the first club rides soon began. Joel moved out of the area in June of 1973, and Rod Brice became the driving force behind the Club. During 1973 the “Spinning Sprockets” series of rides of gradually increasing length soon had many of the members doing distances well over 100 miles in a day. In the fall of 1973 the first club twin century to Rehoboth Beach was held, and it has been repeated every year since then. In June 1974 WCBC put on its first invitational event – The Delaware Double Century, a 200+ mile ride to Rehoboth and back in one day.

See the history for the details, and the appendix for souvineers, including the first Tailwind issue.
