We are a little more than a month away from WCBC’s Annual Club Picnic on Saturday, May 20th. As one of the benefits of membership, we host this picnic for all members of the Club around this time each year. Whether you ride-in, drive-in or even walk-in all members are welcome to join in the festivities at Weiss Park in Salem Woods, off Salem Church Road and Old Baltimore Pike.
The Annual Club Picnic is a Club sponsored event that provides the members with some time off of the bike in a social setting to get to know one another better. The Club grills up hot dogs, beef burgers, veggie burgers, turkey burgers, and compliments them with chips, salads, baked beans, fruits, and drinks of the non-alcoholic type (water, Gatorade). Cookies, brownies, and other goodies might be found on the buffet table as well.
No one is asked to bring anything except an appetite and some stories of past and future rides. This is an opportunity to put a face with the person behind those dark sunglasses and beneath that helmet.
As is the norm with picnics though, there are always people that want to share their Aunt Bertha’s Potato Salad or Uncle Tony’s Macaroni Salad, so for those that have an overwhelming need to bring food, we will not turn you away (we’re not crazy you know). We do ask that you reach out to the Club’s Social Chair, Charlie Johnston (socialchair@whiteclaybicycleclub.org) to let him know what you would like to bring whether it’s homemade or fresh from the store so we don’t have too much of a good thing.
If you want to ride-in check the Ride Calendar as rides are usually posted that will lead you to and from the picnic, while others may start from Weiss Park and take you on a loop to work up an appetite and thirst.
I am hoping that we have a good turnout this year. There are volunteers that put in their time and take a lot of pride in setting up a really nice picnic for the members, it would be a shame not to come to the picnic to thank them for all of their hard work…and eat the food!
I’ll be there, I hope to see you there too.
