Message From the President – Summit 2017…are you going?
By JW HauptWalkable Bikeable Summit 2017 – Thursday, May 4th
The focus of this year’s Walkable Bikeable Summit is “Healthy and Transit-Friendly Development” for the First State.
Where: Legislative Avenue at M.L.K. Boulevard, Dover, DE 19901
When: 8:00 am through 4:00 pm
Programs, session and discussions are from 9 am until 3 pm, which includes a lunch break from 12:00-1:15.
What is Walkable Bikeable Summit?
From what I can tell, the Walkable Bikeable Summit was established to provide a forum for experts and information seekers to gather for the exchange of questions and answers, discussion of thoughts and ideas and a common ground whereby Delaware can evolve into a place where there are safe, alternate means of transportation within the State.
Why should I attend?
If you want to hear about and be a part of what is planned for the First Sate as it relates to making for a safer, friendlier, more walkable and more bikeable state, then this is the place to be. Did you know that transportation is the second largest household expense in Delaware? Learn about the beneficial cost savings from healthy and transit-friendly development and how the money that you save by not owning a vehicle (or owning fewer vehicles) can actually boost the local economy.
From the Bike Delaware website about the Summit – “…we need to reduce the cost of transportation in Delaware in order to catalyze local economic development. But what’s the solution? How can we create a low-cost transportation system in Delaware that will create economically vibrant local economies in Delaware?” Find out how they plan to do this at the Summit.
Speakers from DelDOT, our State Senate and House of Representatives, and Delaware Health and Social Services will address those in attendance. Speakers from outside of Delaware will also be on hand to address attendees. A closing panel discussion will include local government officials from New Castle County, Kent County, City of Wilmington and the Delaware Transit Corporation as well as members from outside of the First State. See the link to the draft agenda below for more details about topics of discussion.
