Are you ready for 2021???

The clocks have been turned back.  I’ve seen my first Robin of Spring…actually I’ve seen many.  I’ve seen the thermometer well above freezing…and below.  We are getting closer and closer to the April, the start of the ride season…for all years except 2020.

I am hoping that the 2021 ride season will begin to move away from what we experienced in the 2020 season and travel back to the good ole days of 2019, 2018, 2017…. when you all gathered together to ride with your cycling buddies, those you knew and those you just met.  As your club president and a ride leader I cannot wait to join you on an evening or weekend ride. I miss seeing everyone decked out in colorful gear, clomping around on bike shoes, pumps topping off tires, helmets strapped on, preparing to take off on a ride.

I am so ready to resume riding this summer and I hope that you are too!!

As more and more people are vaccinated I am hopeful that the world will return to some semblance of past normalcy, especially within our cycling community.  As our ride leaders receive vaccines and as you receive your vaccine I am hopeful that you will feel safe enough to gather in groups to ride together to support each other and the club.

We are going to continue to use the online sign up that we adopted last year – Sign Up Genius.  We will likely continue to limit the number of riders in a group to 10, including up to two ride leaders and because we are limiting the number of riders in the group, ride participation will again be limited to members of the club.  We are going to continue to require face masks and social distancing when off the bike.  All of these safety requirements will remain in place until we can be certain that everyone has either been vaccinated or that this health crisis is considered by health officials to be a thing of the past and it is safe to go maskless.

Regarding membership, if you have not yet renewed here is a link to the 2021 Membership page on BikeReg.  Annual membership begins March 1 and ends the last day of February.  So unless you joined after December 1, 2020 you will need to renew before you can participate in any rides this year.  To check the status of your membership, select the link to the BikeReg site and on the 2021 Membership page select “Who’s Registered?” above the WCBC logo.  Search and if your name isn’t there you are not a current member.  One last note, the cost for club membership has remained at the same as last year for Solo and Family memberships.

I hope to see you on the road in 2021!
