The WCBC held its annual banquet and election on the last day in February. After 25 attendees enjoyed a lunch at Timothy’s Grill at the Riverfront, Club members were presented with a 2025 recap, 2026 outlook and special honors. A cake and prize drawings topped the proceedings.

Bill Ebbott and Fred Hartman were honored for service as directors for the Shorefire Century and Doublecross Metric supported ride events. Their time and care ensuring all the details from rest stops, reservations, snacks, beverages, route marking and volunteer staffing made these events successful.

The 2025 recap spotlighted the positive outcomes of the 4 major supported ride events. The sunny weather was a major factor for the greater participation numbers–especially the large spike in Shorefire attendance.
Last year, a total of 927 Calendar Rides were held. These rides were comprised from 6 groups: Greenville Twilight, North Wilmington Flats, North Wilmington Hills, People’s Plaza, Red Lion and Weekend Warriors. Mother Nature permitting, these rides should be getting back underway this month.

The presentation featured Successes, Misses and Challenges. Increased number of themed riders and website improvements were among the 14 Successes listed. Misses were a trio: quarterly in-person Executive Committee meetings, multi-day ride implementation and volunteer growth. Challenges stated were less than desired major event volunteer participation and Executive Committee vacancies. The 2026 Budget was introduced showing how the Club will support upcoming activities. The complete presentation is available under the About Us/Meeting Minutes tab.

From Club Members’ nominations, WCBC awarded 7 grants to organizations that are cycling advocates or supporters: Bike Delaware, BikeNewark, Delaware Veterans Memorial, League of American Bicyclists, Love of Christ Church, Newark Bike Project and Urban Bike Project of Wilmington.
The banquet closed with the election of the 2026 Executive Committee. Jamie Plower is again slated the lead the Club. Please note that volunteers are still wanted. Three individuals are handling double duty. Two At-Large positions are open.
