The WCBC with a peloton of 56 strong headed up the St Georges Bridge and over the C&D Canal for the renovated span’s grand reopening. WCBC and Bike Delaware cohosted the parade of cyclists. At least 3 other bicycle groups joined in the procession led by the Delaware State Police to be the first crossing the newly renovated bridge.

“White Clay Bicycle Club put on a heck of a ride,” said Christopher Donahue Sr, who rode to support Autism Speaks.
Besides the cycling community, the ribbon cutting ceremony participants included Boy Scout Troop 123, local fire department, repair contractor firm J.D. Eckman, Inc., state officials and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Among the government representatives in attendance were U.S. Senator Tom Carper, who gave high fives to cyclists, and Delaware State Speaker of House Val Longhurst, who pedaled her way to open the bridge.

“This was a great day of everyone coming together,” said WCBC Ride Leader Jamie Plower, who organized the event.
”Fantastic ride,” echoed Mary Cressman.
NBC10 Philadelphia covered the festivities and included footage of cyclists throughout its segment.
The renovation taking place in 18 months and costing $56 million will enable 11,000 vehicles a day and ease traffic on the Roth Bridge. The St Georges Bridge also features bike lanes on both sides.
