The second edition of the the WCBC Cranksgiving was several gears up from last year. Seventeen Club members ignored the rainy weather to ride a loop along the Chesapeake & Delaware (C&D) Canal and donate food items for the Food Bank of Delaware.

While the riders wracked up 28.5 miles on the road, the more impressive number was the 219 lbs of food. The non-perishable donations included canned goods, cereals, juice boxes, pastas, rice and shelf-stable milk.

“I was so touched by all the participation that I almost cried. We even had people who weren’t riding come by and drop off donations. Our Club has such good-hearted people,” said WCBC President and Cranksgiving organizer Jamie Plower.
After completing the route loop, about half of the cyclists stayed for lunch at the rendezvous point, Grain H2O.
Two days before Thanksgiving, the donations were delivered to the Food Bank of Delaware.

“The Food Bank was very busy. We saw a lot of people getting food to take home. It was great that we were able to make these donations at this time with so many in need,” said Club Communications Director Deanna Cain.
With the success of second Club Cranksgiving, this new charitable tradition is already on the docket for 2026.
