Sincere words are probably best, but food is also not a bad way to say “Thank you!” The annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon combined the two to offer sincere thanks for those individuals who assisted in various Club activities throughout the years. Club President Jamie Plower welcomed the volunteers to the luncheon.
Invitations to the luncheon were extended to official Ride Leaders with at least 5 rides led and major event volunteers for the Icicle Metric, Doublecross Metric, Shorefire Century and Savage Century. Executive Committee Members and individuals who staffed the WCBC rest stop that promoted the Club at the Delaware Grand Fondo were included as invitees.

Timothy’s on the Riverfront was the venue for the occasion. Activities included a PRize drawing and a dozen trivia questions on the events in which the volunteers participated. With the trivia prize a small bag of Haribos, the volunteers were ready to share their Club activity knowledge.
Sample questions:
Q: Who is the U.S. Senator named on C&D Canal Trail?
A: Ben Cardin of Maryland
Q: What is the shortest route on the Icicle Metric?
A: 13 miles
Q: What Greenville Weekend Warrior route is named after a bird?
A: Owl’s Nest
The luncheon ended as it began with Jamie extending thanks for everyone helping throughout the season. She emphasized that without volunteers, the Club cannot be successful in offering opportunities for riders of all skill levels and interests.
Jamie reminded everyone that, weather permitting, Canal Night Rides will continue until year’s end. She also extended an invitation to attend the upcoming North Wilmington Holiday Lights Ride in December and Annual Banquet open to all Club Members in February.
