With gusto, 90 cyclists took on some challenging gusts at the annual WCBC opening supported event, the Icicle Metric. The 103 registrations numbered 8 more than last year. Riders hailed from 6 states—Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont—plus Washington, DC. The pleasant temperatures and sunny skies bolstered strong participation; which wasn’t assured with the uneven weather this season.

The 3 circular routes in the Elkton, Maryland area were well received by participants. Besides the rest stops, “low traffic” and “beautiful rural scenery” were cited as the favorite assets.

A few cyclists also shared they joined the WCBC for the first time. Their membership enabled riders to get the Club discount on not only the Icicle Metric, but can be applied to the Doublecross, Shorefire Century and Savage Century if desired.

For this year’s Icicle, WCBC Ride Captain Daniel del Busto led an open group ride for folks to complete all routes for the metric century. Daniel plans to include this option for open group rides in the Doublecross, Shorefire and Savage.
