Doubling Down on Road Safety

Recently, the State of Delaware unanimously passed and signed the Everyone Gets Home Act. This new law, promoted by Bike Delaware, is the first anti-Stroad law. A stroad is a high-speed, usually suburban, highways with lots of driveways. These stroads are statewide where the most pedestrian fatalities occur. Stroads have also earned the infamous distinction as “deadliest parts of Delaware’s transportation system”.

Since shepherding the Everyone Gets Home Act, Bike Delaware is not resting on its laurels. For 2025, it’s promoting the passage of the Safe Roads Act. This proposed safety law is a long-term plan to shift the road system—especially in new construction. This legislative piece cites a 3-tier system separating roads into designs minimizing conflicts among different user groups while giving distinct advantages to each user group.
