This silent ride is to honor cyclists killed/injured in motor vehicle related accidents and to raise awareness about the
rights of cyclists to ride the roads.Fifteen cyclists have been killed in the Delaware Valley since our last Ride of
Silence. The ride is being held in Philadelphia for the 20th year in a row and in its 22nd year since its inception. It is
expected to be held this year at over 200 U.S. locations and internationally in over 15 countries. Last year, we had
450 participants and this year we are hoping to attract at least 500 riders to the event.
The 7-mile long route will start at the North side of the Philadelphia City Hall at the intersection of North Broad Street
and JFK Blvd. A brief pre-ride dedication ceremony will take place at 6:45 PM and the 10 mile per hour ride will start
promptly at 7:00 P.M. It will circle City Hall, continue to Independence Hall, through Center City, and head over to
West Philly via the Walnut St. Bridge. The ride will then end in the front of the Philadelphia Art Museum for the
traditional bike lift in silence. The duration of the ride is expected to be 1.0 hour. Helmets and are required and bicycle
lights are encouraged.
