The 500 cyclists in the Delaware Gran Fondo’s trio of rides could take a load off or load up on fuel at the rest stop staffed by WCBC Executive Committee members.
The mini oasis located at the Delaware Museum of Nature & Science featured beverages, snacks, homemade delectables, picnic tables and animal sculptures photo ops. The museum’s Director of Advancement, Jennifer Acord, visited and offered her insights to hosting at this site.

The rest stop was scheduled first for all 3 groups:
- Governor’s Ride mile 8.7 of its 12.9 mile route
- Medio Fondo mile 8.7 of its 31.7 mile route
- Gran Fondo mile 22.5 of its 62 mile route
Besides greeting and serving the riders, WCBC staff had the opportunity to tell people about the Club and the upcoming Doublecross Metric, Shorefire Metric and Savage Century. WCBC logo saddlebag pins and ride event cards were shared. Another publicity perk was WCBC logo on the Wilmington Grand Prix sponsorship webpage.

“I am very pleased with all positive interaction we received today, “ said WCBC President Jamie Plower.
“Our Club knows how to set up and run effective rider rest stops really well,” added Club Vice President Bill Ebbott.
With such a win-win situation for the Fondo, riders and WCBC, a return to host a rest stop next year is probable.
