Why does WCBC ask you to sign up for Club Rides in advance using SignUpGenius?
Bicycle club rides provide a great way for cyclists to find other like-minded people to ride with and enjoy the relative “safety in numbers” that we get from riding in a group rather than riding alone. It’s great to find a local bike club with awesome people and Ride Leaders to show me the best roads to ride on.
However — Club Rides introduce some inherent risk — and our Volunteer Ride Leaders need to have a way of managing a group that can sometimes get large or contain new people.
Therefore — WCBC uses our Ride Calendar with links to “SignUpGenius” as a way to let our Ride Leaders know how many people they can expect for a ride, who is coming, all while managing the “ride waiver” electronically for insurance reasons.
Signing up for a ride benefits the riders as well, by:
- Providing an emergency contact information in the case that an accident occurs (it happens!)
- Giving the ride leader a way to contact you if the ride is cancelled
- Keeping the group to a manageable 12-15 riders for everyone’s safety
- Letting you know in advance that you have a spot on the ride
So, we welcome everyone to join us on our WCBC Group Rides and ask that you take a few minutes prior to the ride to “Sign Up” and let us know you are coming.
